TOURISM IN ELCHE - PALM GROVE MUSEUM
The Municipal Institute of Culture has provided the city with a venue to visit the Elche Palm Grove enabling visitors to make the most of this natural area. The Museum reveals the beginnings, history, development and culture behind the palm grove, helping visitors understand the reasons why the UNESCO declared this exceptionally valuable asset a World Heritage Site.
It is located in a traditional home in the central Huerto de San Plácido (very near Huerto del Cura) which has been refurbished for that purpose. The theme of the different rooms that it consists of will show a precise view of the history of the palm grove, the different uses of the palm trees and its development as one of the main symbols of the city. It is thus appreciated as a whole, embedded within the very palm grove, where the tourist can delve into the notion of its historical and cultural symbolism, while enjoying its unique beauty at the same time.
So why not wander around the different rooms where several videos, patchwork, panels, exhibition items, web surfing touch screens and surrounding sounds will show a tiling of pictures, compositions and facts to place and inform the visitor with great detail.
The above visit continues with an outdoor walk around the palm grove itself.
