HUERTO DEL CURA
The Huerto del Cura, with an extension of 13,000 square metres, enjoys the status of an artistic garden. Inside the garden there is a collection of all kinds of Mediterranean and tropical plants laid out harmoniously in a quiet and restful atmosphere where the palm trees take the authentic leading role on the garden, endowing a very particular character.
The visitor can also enjoy its fabulous collections of palmaceae and cactaceae from all corners of the world, including several species adapted to our climate. In addition to the palm trees, there are other typical Spanish Mediterranean crops such as lemon trees, orange trees, pomegranate trees, carob trees and jujube trees along with other subtropical species gathered throughout the years to create a stunning collection of plants from the most exotic places.
However, the most remarkable gem owing to its rarity is the Imperial Palm: this is a unique specimen, a date palm tree with seven stems born from a single trunk that feeds them, characterized for its beauty and symmetry and the fact that it is an exceptional case among palmaceae. Chaplain Castaño dedicated it to the Empress Elisabeth of Austria ("Sissi") when she visited the garden in 1894, hence its name.
